Rock Group’ Takes Center Stage at Hilltown Ridge
Before beginning the site development work at Hilltown Ridge, a 325-acre residential housing project in suburban Philadelphia, PA, Allan A. Myers engineers knew that test borings indicated the presence of rock on the site. Once work began, the full extent of that presence became clear, and it was substantially greater than anticipated.
Using three rock drills in tandem, the team removed 160,000 cubic yards of hard, dense argillite, a fissureless stone that tests at 30,000 psi. The dirt crew stepped in, brought extra equipment and compressed their schedule to make up for the time consumed by the rock operations. The teamwork kept the project on track, and it is headed for August completion.

Large Commercial Site Development
Takes Shape in Suburban D.C.

American Infrastructure-Maryland is now undertaking the site work for the 50-acre Vista Gardens commercial development project in Lanham, MD. The future home of a Target, Office Depot, Home Depot and others, Vista Gardens numbers the earth moving in excess of 600,000 cubic yards, with a third of that removed from the site. The project includes site preparation, pad prep-aration, utilities, paving and curb.

The owner/ developer of the property, Michael Co., is headquartered in Lanham, and the proximity has yielded excellent communication and uncommon opportunity for timely resolution of any issues that arise. Our work at Vista Gardens is due for delivery in February, 2006, and is proceeding as scheduled.

Central PA Water Treatment
Plant on Track for ‘05 Finish
Allan A. Myers is two-thirds through the construction
of the new West Shore Regional Treatment Plant in Mechanicsburg, PA. This $22 million project is slated to be operational by December, 2005, and is being built for the Pennsylvania American Water Company. Located on the Yellow Breeches Creek near its confluence with the Susquehanna River, the plant replaces an obsolete upstream facility and is projected to output at the rate of 10-12 mgd. Pre-clarification is by a non-mechanical, "super pulsator" system supplied by French manufacturer Infilco D’egremont, followed by traditional gravity filtration.
