Green Development Requires New Priorities, New Equipment
(Above) Moving a thirty-five foot evergreen poses no problem for the new AI articulated-chassis tree spade.
Because green initiatives are now included as part of current and future land-development protocol, American Infrastructure has added new equipment to help designers and developers maximize the use of one of their most plentiful on-site resources: trees.
(Above) Loaded on a low-boy, the new tree spade makes an impression on everyone as it rolls out to its next assignment.
(Above) Many more trees, like this dogwood, are now transplant candidates because the new machine can harvest trees from locations that were previously inaccessible.

American Infrastructure’s new Optimal 9500 articulated-chassis tree spade is the result of two years of collaboration between our equipment managers, the German spade manufacturer (Optimal) and the Swedish truck manufacturer (Volvo). The finished product is a one-of-a-kind machine of which, by agreement, no other examples exist in the United States.

The combination of all-wheel drive and a chassis that allows the machine to "bend" in the middle means terrain and woodlands that were not previously accessible for tree harvesting now are. Indigenous trees, native to the landscape and with soil compatibility assured, can now be used like never before, maintaining the environmental and visual integrity of any site.
