The U.S. Marine Corps Base at Quantico, VA, was established in 1917 with four officers and 91 enlisted men. Things are quite different there today, as R.G. Griffith moves through its third year of site development for 1,100 new single-family and townhome military housing units at the base. At this time, the work is due for completion in August 2007, well ahead of schedule.

Done in successive sections, the work includes the demolition of existing military housing that was built after World War II, and the complete preparation of each section including site, underground utilities, paving and fine grading. After clearing and demolition, each section is required to be delivered in fourteen weeks. Construction and completion of the housing units follows in each finished section as our work begins on the next.

The scope and length of the project–RGG began work at Quantico in February 2004–suggest that many variables could impact the schedule, but good weather, predictable site conditions and the right equipment and crews have all worked together to make Quantico a success.
