A Unique New Piece of Equipment – Engineered and
Built for Exceptional Performance and Capability

More than two years of collaboration between American Infrastructure equipment managers, German tree spade manufacturer Optimal and Swedish truck manufacturer Volvo has resulted in a new, one-of-a-kind piece of equipment. It is an articulated-chassis, all-wheel-drive tree spade, built to our specification, and is the only one in North America.

Our goal was to create a tree spade that could easily handle tough terrain and heavily wooded sites in order to harvest trees up to 10" in caliper, and re-use them on the same site. The chassis, which “hinges” in the middle, provides new levels of maneuverability around trees and other obstacles to reach targeted specimens. All-wheel drive allows us to operate on wet or uneven ground that would limit or prevent the mobility of other large tree spades. And the spade blades have the unique ability to fold back upon themselves when in the full-open position, providing a lower profile, minimizing the need for pruning or branch tie-back before harvesting.(see Tree Spade Specs).
